In the Studio again.

I made it into my studio yesterday!   That I actually made it to my work table is quite a feat, considering we have a full house -  3 bedrooms, 1 studio and 7 people.   And I actually finished 8 cards!  We went to my nephew's house this afternoon, when we got home this evening I started another 12 cards, but haven't gotten too far on them yet.  Probably won't get too much further tonight as one of my daughters is trying to round everyone up play a game.  

Here's the card I designed for thank you cards for the flowers, gifts of food, gifts of support etc. we received for Mom.  The paper is Tim Holtz' new Vintage Shabby collection and the vintage image is my mom as a little girl.  The "thank you" was embossed on some scrap vellum I had using VersaColor Ultimate Pigment Ink in black and Stamp-N Stuff Detail Black embossing powder.  The buttons are from my stash (probably vintage buttons my mom gave me years ago.)  The mat for the picture on the left is leftover paper from the card on the right.  The picture mat on the card on the right was created using distress ink applied to craft sheet and spritzed with Perfect Pearls in Pewter and water.

In honor of Mom (Grandma)

My 4 "kids" and I created a memory board honoring Mom.  I narrowed down the photos and put down some of the background elements .  The kids did everything else including deciding on the final photos, the layout and adding the embellishments.   It was fun making and brought back good memories.  The girls were inspired by picture of Mom wearing the hat (top right) so that all 3 girls went out and bought hats to wear to the funeral. 

The kids also created a "permanent" scrabble board for Grandma as she LOVED playing Scrabble.  9 out of 10 times she would beat whomever she played. 

 

I created a program for the services that included a collage of photos and this poem:

Her Journey's Just Begun

Don't think of her as gone away,

her journey's just begun,

Life holds so many facets,

this earth is only one,

Just think of her as resting,

from the sorrows and the tears,

In a place of warmth and comfort,

where there are no days or years,

Think how she must be wishing,

that we could know today,

How nothing but our sadness,

can really pass away,

And think of her as living,

in the hearts of those she touched,

For nothing loved is ever lost,

and she was loved so much.

My mother passed away peacefully today, March 18, 2010 at around 10 a.m. PDT.

Mom, I love you and will miss you!

Only an hour

I haven't been spending a lot of time in the studio lately because I have not felt like playing.   In the last month I have only made the flowers in the previous posts and a card for Mom.   I did stamp some images and took them along with my watercolor pencils to "color" while I was sitting with her.   Today I made myself go into the studio.  I told myself I only had to spend an hour in the studio and only had to  make one card.

A while back I posted a challenge to have 60 Mothers' Day Cards and 60 "all occasion" cards made and in the mail to Operation Write Home by March 15.  At this point it's a pretty safe bet that I am not going to have that many cards ready to send, but I still want to send as many as I can.  (Guess I work well under pressure! lol)  I decided to make a Mother Day card in my hour to send to Operation Write Home.

The hour I spent in the studio turned into about an hour and 10 minutes.  I completed these two cards, the sunflowers are a couple of the images I "painted" while keeping Mom company.

The butterfly on the card on the left is more orange-ish in person.  The tag on the card on the right actually hangs from the stem so it's not covering up the other leaf or a bee.

I worked on a third card, but it wasn't coming together, so I left it in pieces for another time.

Lucky me!!!

I have been very fortunate for the last week or so as I have had one of Tim's new Sizzix dies in my hot little hands!  Well, it has not been in my hands (or in my Big Shot) as much as I would like, but I have gotten to spend a little time playing!

Without further ado, here are the flowers using the "Tattered Floral" Alteration die with Grungepaper:

On this first flower I used 3 of the large 6 petal flowers inked with Barn Door distress ink.

On the 2nd flower I used 4 of the large 6 petal flowers inked with Wild Honey distress ink spritz with Perfect Gold Perfect Pearls mixed with water.

On the next two I used the medium daisy looking flower. The lily on the left I used Rusty Hinge and Spiced Marmalade distress inks and the lily on the right I used Victorian Velvet distress ink.  I used alcohol ink on the stamens of both lilies and I think I spritzed both with some perfect gold perfect pearls and water.. 

I am working on a couple more designs, hopefully I will have something to show you soon!
